Wha..? Give A Bonus To Your Employee That Blogs?
Seth thinks that should be the case. I've also heard the same thing is practised at IBM. Maybe that's why their DeveloperWorks site is chock full of useful stuff. And top companies sometimes enforce this on their senior technical employees. Maybe 'enforce' is too strong a word. Geeks love to share, no forcing required. Just let them (us).
No, I'm not getting any bonus for maintaining my blog. That is not the point. The point is, when your employee blogs:
- it shows that your company employs smart, mature people that is able to share ideas
- your company gets free publicity because of (1) and any time the employee says something good
- your company will attract more of the same smart group of people
As for employee thinking to blog about work, do it. But be smart about it. A blog can do wonders for your career if done correctly.
