It’s actually quite an eye-opener with regards to how Facebook is no longer just a fad (funny how me and my company’s Director talked about this casually over lunch) but a necessity. Check this out:
Facebook trumps text messaging, shiny new phones,
bluetooth systems, Xbox live. Without a profile, it’s almost impossible
to keep in touch with anyone, or anything. A few of my friends
conducted a casual experiment to prove just how intertwined our social
lives and Facebook had become. The longest lasted a month and a half,
but saw invitations to parties and games drop dramatically. It was even
hard for her to participate in her school government.
Come to think of it, it really does make sense. Much like how the telephone allowed previously unheard of way of communication - over virtually unlimited distances - Facebook (or the Internet if you’re an old-timer
) is allowing the newer generation to stay connected in even more ways. You’re not just limited to voice but almost any aspect of your life can be shared if you so desire (just take a look at the top-10 applications that were granted the much coveted fbfund - there’s an app to share wedding information!)
Facebook’s done its fair share for me, allowing me to rediscover my primary school friends.
