Yup, it is that time of the year when yours truly feels a tad nostalgic and goes digging for old movies to watch. Usually triggered by extreme boredom and loneliness, this particular episode made me dug up some old VCDs of Star Wars given to me as a birthday gift by an old friend. These are the newer versions of the movie, with improved CGI and sound but they’re not the latest. The newest version of Star Wars has a more current Emperor Palpatine in The Empire Strikes Back as well as Christen as Anakin Skywalker when he appears as a Force apparition at the end of Return Of The Jedi.
I’ve said this and I’ll say it again; the old Star Wars trilogy is so much better! Everyone acted so well, even the unnamed characters in the movie showed emotions unlike the new digital crap put out in the recent years. One good example is the part in Return of The Jedi when Vader broke the news to the sorry Emperial officer that the Emperor was going to come on board the newly constructed Death Star. Boy did they guy show a good panic face. It is these kind of little things that contributes to the overall quality of the trilogy.
By the way, there’s a new animated Star Wars movie coming out soon. Seems I caught the Star Wars fever early.
How interesting you were talking about this. I was channel surfing yesterday and came across the Return of the Jedi on TV. To my horror, it was the newer version with all those CGI graphics and Hayden Christensen as Anakin at the end. I was quite upset how George Lucas has wrecked the old Star Wars movies by all these new “enhancements”.
I’m surprised that there wasn’t as much of an uproar over this, regardless of it being HIS movie. Let’s think for a moment how ridiculous it would be if all those old classics like Casablanca, Some like it Hot, Citizen Kane, etc were all revamped and enhanced with totally different new additions, etc. Okay, there was a time when they colorized the movies, but that never caught on.
George should have left it the way it was instead of killing it. I think I’ll have to dig up my old VHS tapes….
Funny I didn’t really think of it that way. The edits didn’t bother me really (if anything, they improved the movie for me).
I don’t mind the slight touch up here and there. It is nothing like the new trilogy where CGI were being used everywhere up to the point it detracted from the movie.
I remember reading that it was so difficult for the actors to display any sort of emotion because they were always talking to a tennis ball against a green screen.
Dude, heading out to catch the new clone wars movie out next week ?
Btw, you still actively playing sf3/sfa3 ?
Definitely. Would’ve like it better if it not an animated show, but what the heck
SFA? Sometimes, sometimes.
