Yup, the big day finally arrives. WWDC is tomorrow (US) which means Malaysians can expect a flurry of news about cool Apple stuff on Tuesday morning (there goes work). The good news is of course there will probably (that’s 99% probability) be a new iPhone announced, packing all the stuff the current one lacks such as 3G and GPS. It’s also thinner, smaller and lighter.
Now the bad news. It’s locked. Hard. No more unlocks. But of course, hackers being hackers, I expect a couple of hundred of extremely talented and dedicated folks to purchase phones just to find away to get root access
So until then, I’m gonna reserve judgement about it being impossible to unlock.
Second bad news; jail breaking hack has also been taken away. Not surprised though. I bet Apple allowed jailbreaking on purpose just to test the waters for 3rd party applications, or get the SDK ready, or just to work around a bad deal with the providers there. Whatever. Since the SDK is readily available now, no reason to leave the jail breaking hack around. What remains to be seen is if the many available freewares (really, I’m surprised at the abundance of free software for the iPhone, reminds me of PalmOS in the earlier days) will be available through other means (the rumoured iPhone software store for iTunes?).
Nevertheless, the iPhone 2.0 (that’s not its real name btw) is highly anticipated and it’s not hard to see why.
no money to buy cuz….not until I get the yearly RM625 million windfall that the G promised to pay me as their justification in increasing the petrol price…..u got the generous offer also what right? what u plan to do with sooooo muuuuuch money? buy a few bungalows and travel the world? pening leh? so much leh?
At this point in time, I just don’t know how to react to the current G. Their mindless decisions are only matched by their arrogance. I can’t stand to even hear the biggest bozo in Malaysia talk that every time he comes on news I just switch channels. Beh tahan.
Things like the iPhone takes my mind off the sad reality of being in Malaysia for a while. Nevermind that I can’t afford it too. Actually, it’s not on my list.
A Sigma 10-20 and 50-150, now those ARE on my list of my buys
ya, need to get a few lenses as well cos might be useful in Abu Dhabi ( my next project posting )…a good travel lens to recommend?
Bro, the 18-135 is a good travel lens already. People say the 18-200 is a good travel lens, but the extra range seems like nothing after comparing to your lens. Almost the same view despite the extra 65mm. So based on this, I think the lens you have now is great when you wanna travel light and don’t want the hassle of swapping lens. I was very happy carrying mine when I went to Melaka and Redang.
The only lenses better than yours (and mine) would be faster ones. The Sigma 50-150 I mentioned is a f2.8 lens (woohoo imagine zooming close @f2.8). It’s small and lightweight too, about 700g. Problem is, it’s expensive (for me la); about RM2.3-2.8k, depending on where you shop. It’s certainly nice to have though as our current lens tends to border being useless when there’s little light. The 50-150 is actually the 70-200 of our cropped sensor cameras. If you don’t like telephoto lens like this one, there’s a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 that’s quite cheap (about RM1.3k).
The Sigma 10-20 on the other hand is a specialty lens for landscape. Don’t know if landscape is your thing. If it is, this is a good lens. This one is around RM1.7-2.2k depending on where you shop.
