One of the functions I’ve yet to explore on the E61 is GPS navigation. Malaysia and Singapore has an excellent community going on at Malsingmaps.com. The folks there offer free and frequently updated maps. Even commercial maps have a hard time to keep up with the free ones offered there. Which why I feel it’s such a waste not being able to use them. I tried venturing into GPS mapping, albeit without the GPS hardware yet, while I had my Tungsten T5 but alas it was sold before I got my feet entirely wet.
Now that I’m on the Symbian platform, I’m learning one tough fact - there’s no auto-routing mapping software available that can use the free Malaysian maps. If I’m mistaken, and there is one, please, drop a comment and enlighten me. The only one that I’ve tried is SmartCOM GPS which does take in a KL map I tried but it doesn’t offer auto-routing, which is for me, the killer app for GPS navigation. Auto-routing is a feature where the software is able to show the route between 2 destinations. Not only is that freakin’ cool, it’s also very handy when you do not know your way around the crazy highways in KL
While I’m waiting patiently for a piece of software that will fit my needs, I’ll have to make do with reading about other people’s experience with GPS navigation on their Nokia E61.
Is there any way that I can be traced using a GPS reciver thorugh internet, like if am outside and my GPS is working is there any application by which anybody can trace me sitting on computer? jvc-473.blogspot.com
I don’t know Pablo, at least I’ve not come across applications like that. Most of the online mapping services use non-real time information.
