Eclipse Callisto is an effort to simultaneously release ten Eclipse projects at the same time. This is to simplify installation of these projects. I have to admit, there’s been many times where plugins and/or projects don’t work properly because of conflicting versions. The question of whether or not to overwrite a certain jar is always there. Callisto aims to solve this.
To get access to Callisto, get hold of a Callisto binary runtime of Eclipse RC7 (it’s the latest during the time of writing). Visit the Eclipse Callisto Discovery page for latest versions. It’s only about 30+ MB because it’s just the core Eclipse IDE, no Java plugins, no C++ plugins. You’ll have to get these using the update manager.
Here’s how:
Step 1: Access the downloaded Eclipse Callisto menu and select Help –> Software Updates –> Find and Install

Step 2: Select ‘Search for new features to install’

Step 3: Choose ‘Callisto Discovery Site’ and hit the ‘Finish’ button
Step 4: Select the nearest mirror to you. You can also choose the default Callisto Discovery Site

Step 5: Select features to install. If there are any dependency issues, click on the ‘Select Required’ button or manually check the appropriate projects

Step 6: Agree to the license agreement
Step 7: Choose the directory to install. Mine is set to ‘C:\eclipse_callisto’.

Step 8: Wait for the download to complete (it does take a while). As of writing this, mine is still downloading.
